Ready to sell your home? Don't forget to prepare for the home inspection!

Our 12 essential tips will help you get your home inspection-ready and increase your chances of a successful sale.

Feel free to print a copy for yourself or clients to help prepare for upcoming home inspection.

  1. If home is empty, leave utilities on and pilot lights lit

  2. Make sure electrical sockets, light fixtures, switches and fans work

     

  3. Confirm smoke and carbon monoxide detectors operate

     

  4. Check that faucets and toilets run properly and don't leak

     

  5. Clean stove and oven so they won't smoke and set off alarm when tested

  6. Verify doors and windows open and close and verify all hardware works

     

  7. Clear obstructions around furnace, water heaters and attic access

     

  8. Leave keys for outbuildings and exterior electrical boxes if you have them

     

  9. Remove brush and debris from exterior inspection points

     

  10. Gather documentation for renovations or repairs that have been made

     

  11. Remove or crate pets

     

  12. Plan to be away for 3 hours minimum
